CLASH WITH THE POLICE. LIVELY STREET SCENES. Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 27. Four mcn-o '-wars-men from the Philomel and two civilians were arreste.d on charges of drunkenness and assault after a melee with the police in Shortland Street early this morning. The brawl originated in a man-o'-wars-man being arrested for drunkenness and obscene language. His comrades rounded on the one policeman who was making the arrest. On other constables arriving and a big crowd gathering, the affair became a melee. All the sailors and two civilians were taken into custody. The police wore roughly handled, helmets, and uniforms being- damaged, while a sergeant received a severe blow on the nose.
