Wheat —The market is less depressed, but the demand has not improved. Australia, on spot, is Quoted at 38/3. Flour —The market is dull, and has ~an easier tendency. Australian, in etore, is quoted at 26/6. OTHER PRODUCE. Oats—rThe market is steady. La Plata, June-July, 15/10$; Gartons, June-July, 21/3. Beans and Peas —The market is quiet and unchanged. ' * BUTTER AND CHEESE. Butter —The market is very slow. Colonial arrivals are small. Australian is nominally unchanged. New Zealand is very scarce. June 26, 1914. [The Auckland "Star" of Thursday quotes the following wholesale prices for grain and produce:—Potatoes, £5 5/- per ton; oats, second grade 2/9 ex wharf, Algerian seed 3/8; oaten sheaf chaff £6 5/- ex wharf, £6 10/- ex store. These figures are also borne out by recent market reports in the Auckland "Herald." They agree with the quotations made, and which our correspondent refers to.—Ed. THE SUN.j LAND SALE. At their rooms this morning Messrs Craddock, M 'Crostie Company sold by auction a quarter-acre residential site in Salisbury Street to Mr Bean. HORSE SALE. At the weekly horse sale at Tattersalls this morning there was an entry of 33 horses, and a good sale resulted. Four young unbroken draughts from St. Helens Station sold well, realising up to £2B 10/-, and averaging over £2O. An aged light draught mare brought £l9, and light horses sold at the usual rates.
TO-DAY'S" POULTRY MARKET. There was a splendid entry in J. B. Merrett's egg and poultry market today. Nearly 2000 birds were entered and met with ready sale. Breeding cockerels realised 8/- to 20/-; table chickens, 4/6 to 8/4; light chickens, 2/- to 4/3; hens, 2/- to 6/6; pullets, 3/to S/-; ducks, 5/- to 7/9; geese; 8/- to 9/-; turkeys, 24/- to 33/-; all at per pair. THE EGG MARKET. • Supplies are coming forward more freely, and prices have fallen. Canterbury Egg Circle, first grades 1/6, seconds 1/3 to 1/4. Members are responding freely to a call for export, and in conjunction with other societies, will help to make an export trade of 50,000 dozen this season.
THE SHARE MARKET.
The activity on the local Stock Exchange mentioned in our last week's report continued during the greater part of this week, but a slump in quotations was experienced at to-day's call when only four, quotations were recorded. Interest in mining'stocks has centred around Talismans. On Saturday last the quotations were:—Buyers 35/-, sellers 35/6, while to-day'sr figurts read: Buyers 32/-, sellers. 32/6. , Banks. —Bank of New Zealand: The fully paid issue sold at £l7 4/-, with a subsequent sale at £l7 2/6. Sellers are now asking £l7 5/-. The market is a shade easier in this issue compared with three weeks ago. National Banks: A sale recorded- this week shows another increase of 6d. Two sales were reported at £5 16/- and £5 16/6. These shares are firm, buying quotations at £5 16/liaving failed to command business. A further increase is anticipated, as the annual dividend is payable early.next month. . Gas.—Christchurch Gas: These shares have weakened slightly. Sales last week reached. £7. 9/-, while two sales this -week were reported, at £7 8/-, with sellers at the same figure. Wellington Gas: The £lO issue is regularly wanted at £l6 7/6, ' without business resulting. Auckland Gas: Sales were made this week at 30/-.
Insurance.—Very little business has. been. done in this, section. On' the local market-, the .only quotations related; to Standards, buyers increasing prices from- 35/9 to 36/-, and New Zealands, buyers, offerings £6 7/-. In other centres sales were reported of-South British at £4 11/6, and New' Zealands at £6 7/6 and £6 7/-, which shows a somewhat weaker market. Meats. —Christchurch Meat Co.: No business was - reported ,- this we.esk> buyers, still offering £l6 7/6,.;wif|t;.sei7 j lerb qu6ting;,i£l6lo/-, - -£ll- isstiiesv of. these sliares could be readily placed at present market rates. .Canterbury Frozen Meat Co.: Several sales have been reported at £8 16/6, due to the placing by a local estate of a large parcel of these shares on the local market. Sales have since been made at £8 17/-, and sellers are now asking £8 17/6. The preference issue of this company are wanted at £5.
Shipping.—Union Steam Ship Co.: The only sale o'f the ordinary shares was made at 24/8. The preference issue sold at 20/9, local buyers offering 20/6, without sellers. New Zealand Shipping Co.: No business or quotations have been recorded in this company 's shares. Coal. —Westport: No sales have been recorded, sellers quoting 30/3, without buyers. Taupiri: These shares have hardened during the last few weeks. Several sales have been made at 21/9, and buyers are still offering this figure. Sellers are now quoting 22/-.
-Woollens. —No business in this sec tion has been reported.
Miscellaneous. —Bowron Bros.: There has been no improvement in buying or selling quotations. Holders are evidently satisfied, and btiyfers will not increase their price above 7/-. Farmers 1 Co-op.: Sales have been made at 48/3, and sellers are now quoting 48/6. Whitcombe and Tombs: Sales have been made at £6 1/-. Buyers are now 1 offering £6 2/6, without sellers. .
Breweries. —Manning «|: Sales of this issue have been made at £3 18/6. Ward's: Buyers are still offering £5 for the £4 paid issue, but the price is not tempting enorgh to command business.
Mining. —Wailii: Prices have remained almost stationary. At the beginning of the week sales were made at 43/6, and prices advanced to 43/9, but
declined to 43/3. To-day's prices are, buyers 42/6, sellers 43/6. Talisman's: Sales were made on Monday last at 35/3, and an advance to 35/9 was recorded. Owing to a report of low values prices rapidly declined to 33/3. Auckland market quotations to-day record buyers at 32/-, sellers 32/6. Wailii Grand junction: Sales have been practically stationary, prices fluctuating from 26/- to 26/2, and 26/- to 25/9. Satisfactory reports regarding developments are to hand, and the month's return is larger than usual. > To-day's quotations are firm, buyers quoting 25/6, sellers 26/-. Ross: A final call of 3d per share was made this week. Sales were recorded at 1/10 and 2/-, but declined to 1/4, including call of 3d. Today's quotations are, buyers 1/3, sellers 1/5.
