DEPTH OF BASS STRAIT.
MOST RECENT SOUNDINGS.

Soundings taken by the Federal trawler in Bass Strait disclosed a number of inaccuracies regarding depths and other data. It was established that a central basin with a maximum depth of fifty-three fathoms extends from the Tasmanian coast into the Southern Ocean. Previously the greatest depth marked was forty-eight fathoms.
