An attempt was made by fifteen Hindus to force their way to the Komogata Maru, to gain communication with their countrymen, but it was frustrated by the police and immigration officials.
While Mr Bird, the Hindus' lawyer, was attempting to obtain a pacific entry to the ship, the Hindus took the matter into their own hands.
They chartered a launch/and set out from the wharf, but a few minutes later they were back in the dock, headed off by an Immigration Department's boat. A squad of police took the name 3 of the ringleaders, and forced them and their followers from the waterfront.
