BOXING.
CKRISTCHURCH SPORTS CLUB.
At a meeting of the Committee of the Christchurch Sports Ciub last evening there were present Messrs E. Nordon (chairman), F. A. Hornibrook, W. It. Atack, T. E. Robson, and 11. B. Gould (secretary). The New Zealand Boxing Council brought under the club's notice the matter of boxers failing to pay their board accounts while under engagement to loefiPassociations. The letter, which was a circular to all affiliated associations, proceeded: —"In the opinion of the council it is desirable that, from this out, local associations should become responsible for any board debt in-j curred by boxers under engagement j with them —amateur or professional, — j and should pay the account themselves from the money guaranteed for ex- j penses. The adoption of this system j will put a stop to the complaints that I have been made, and the council trusts j that it will receive favourable consideration from local associations." The committee heartily endorsed the council's letter, and decided to take action regarding a visiting boxer who, it was stated, had left Christchurch without paying his hotel account. Letters were received from amateur boxers asking for matches. These were referred to a sub-committee —consisting of Messrs Atack and Robson —which had been appointed to recommend matches for the club's August tournament after seeing the Canterbury championships tournament next month. Frank Kllis, the Wellington featherweight professional boxer, wrote enquiring regarding the possibilities of a match —either feather-weight or lightweight —in Christchurch. —lie will be informed that the only prospect at. present is that of a fight with the winner of the contest, in August, between J. Il.'igerty and P. Cook (light-weights).
Mr F. A. Hornibrook tendered his resignation as a member. The meeting went into committee to-hear Mr Hornibrook J s reasons for resigning. At the end of the committee stage it was stated that consideration of the resignation would be held over until next meeting. It was decided that in future the monthly meeting should be held on the second Friday in each month, and that any urgent business arising in the interim should be dealt with by the executive.
