LIVELY ELECTIONS.
EXCITEMENT IN PARIS. The recent French General Elections were conspicuous for a good deal of rough treatment of candidates and their friends. The most serious incident took place at Marseilles. There, M. Antide Boyer, ex-Senator, a candidate, was attacked when returning from a political meeting. Pepper was thrown in his eyes, aiid he was shot in the arm twice. He was found at the roadside, and was carried to hospital in a motor car.
At Mamers, where M. Caillaux was a candidate, his supporters burned the tyres from the car of a rival candidate, while another rival, who was also in a motor car, was stoned, and one of his companions was struck. In Paris there were riotous scenes after the last meeting before the polling. One speaker was stabbed twice in the head. Several arrests were made.
