FIRES.

NEW BRIGHTON BLAZE. A five-roomed cottage'in Herring Bay Road,' New Brighton, owned ■by Miss ".' 'E., . M. . Stewart, and. oc : eupied, by Mr J. J.. Stewart,, was destroyed, by fire about 5.3,0, yesterday afternoon. The cause of the qutbreak is. riot kjiown; at the time of its occurrence, Mr Stewart's two little girls were engaged in preparing their father's,tea. The New Brighton Fire Brigade made strenuous efforts to extinguish the blaze but were badly hampered through/lack of water. The house was insured in the State Fire Office for £350, but it is believed there was no cover on the furniture. FIRE IN A STABLE. The Fire Brigade was called out about 9 o'clock last evening to extinguish an incipient outbreak ,in ,a ; stable in Peterborough Street, used by Messrs Dennis Brothers, fishmongers. The horses were got out in safety, and the fire, whi,ch had consumed a quantity, of straw, causing a great deal. of smojte, was soon out. Practically no damage was- done. ' . A,SLIGHT BLAZE. The Brigade received another call about 10.25 this morning, this time to the shop of' Messrs M 'Phail aiid : Fisher, leather merchants, in Manchester Street. A small bottle of bisulphide of carbon solution had been knocked over near the fire, and this caused a bit of a flare-up. The damage done was trifling.
