TO LOOSEN KNOTS.

;; • Nothing ;is more annoying than to ; fin<J that;;the,'piece of rope or leather strap you want in a particular hurry has a hard > knot in it. The following hint is a useful one for loosening knots in .straps,;' harness, .cor'ds, ropes,_ .or even shoe strings :r—Hammer the knot all sides with a mallet or piece of wood, turning the strap or rope around; then dip in boiling water, holding it there a minute, or two, according tp size of knot to be loosened. Before doing so add a little soap to the water, then with a sharply-pointed instrument pick the knot loose. It can often be done with the fingers. Knots that have been pulled in harness or ropes for months or years can be loosened readily.
