WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PERFUME?
SCENT AS AN INDICATION OF CHARACTER According to a well-known Fren.'h perfumer, who has made a study of scents and their relative feminine characteristics, a woman's temperament generally influences her in the choice of a favourite perfume. Parma violet, for example, is the favoured colour of the nervous, highly-strung woman, to whom, as it happens, this scent is particularly suitable on account of its soothing qualities. Sweet Peas and Patchouli. Then the woman who has a weakness for patchouli is said to be extravagant and difficult to please. She is fastidious in her choice of perfumes, as indeed she is in all other matters, and is rather prone to think and speak contemptuously of the sister who is satisfied with the simple pleasures of life. The fragrance of sweet peas has a sweet and elusive charm that endears it to the heart of the bewitching little siren known as a "flapper." She is a bright, happy, even frivolous creature, and can always be thought of as a lighthearted biitterfly revelling in the sunshine. : Jockey Club is.the favourite perfume of the. witty, talkative, versatile, and entertaining woman;- who is usually in the best of health and spirits. She is certain of. popularity .wiierever she may go on account of her wide and optimistic outlook. She who gives her preference to wallflower can be called.an "epicure in emotions." . She,is introspective to a degree, and. intensely interested in all her own thoughts --and sensations, and is" egotistical, though riot necessarily selfish. Selfish Otto of Eoses. ; It is otto of roses that is the choice of the selfish woman. If you happen to have a friend whose toilet table is always adorned by a bottle of this rich and expensive perfume, just watch her movements and mode
of life, and you will very soon discover her desire and liking for ease, and languorous pleasures. If the sporting woman lias a favourite scent you will And that it is invariably Frangippanni. There is a buoyancy about it that suits her active and energetic self, and to her way of thinking it has a great advantage over other perfumes in that it retains its fragrance a long time, and is thus well suited to the woman who has little time for her toilet. The Thoughtful Girl. The sweet, simple perfume of the wood violet is the modest, quiet, and thoughtful girl's selection. It is as refined and dainty as herself, and her choice is an indication of constancy, and true, strong, though perhaps unemotional affection. Her elder sister is the advocate of that most refreshing and soothing of scents, Eau de Cologne, The lover of Nature—of green meadows and the simple daisy—is a devotee of white rose scent, which is an extract from the flowers themselves, with very little adulteration. And as for lavender water, is it not the beloved perfume of the domesticated woman? Simple and unaffected, like her homely self.
