Captain A. M'Arthur Onslow, who has been for two years instructor to the Canterbury Mounted Brigade, left for the north* last • evening, en route for England, to rejoin his regiment. He v/as accompanied by Mrs Onslow.
Mr Robert Fletcher, chairman of the. Wellington Harbour Board, who is opposing the Hon. F. M. B. Fisher for the Wellington Central seat iii the Liberal interests, broke a blood vessel on Tuesday, and .will be confined to his bed for some.days, .. .
Captain P. B. Henderson left for. NelaOn last evening. He will conduct" an enquiry into an accident which occurred on one of the rifle ranges in that district, and will carry out a general in : spection of all the ranges in Canterbury. Mr William Ferguson's appointment as managing director of the Wellington Gas Company will expire at the end of the'year, but will be renewed on terms allowing.him to visit Great Britain, in order to acquaint himself with the latest developments in gas engineering. The Town Clerk (Mr H. R. Smith) celebrated his silver wedding on Wednesday, the 17th inst. Last evening he was invited to enter the Council Chamber, and there he was confronted by the assembled *taff and a number of members of the City Council. The city surveyor (Mr A. Dudley Dobson) con; veyed the felicitations of the gathering to Mr Smith, and asked his acceptance of a solid silver. rose bowl, suitably engraved. Mr Smith made a suitable response, thanking the staff for their very kind recognition of au anniversary which had so much interest for Mrs Smith and himself. He very heartily appreciated their good wishes and congratulations.
