UNDER TWENTY-ONE.
To the Editor of THE SUN.
Sir, —Seeing that three licensees haVe been fined for serving boys with'liquor it will be interesting to watch if any objection is taken to the renewal of their < license. Considering the' strong remarks by Mr Bishop when these boys were brought before him, I should' lm v e thought at least he would have .heard the eases (of course he may be ill), but it is very singular Tiow these cases are smothered when brought before, the Court.. Either the license laws are bad or these people .should never have the . chance to repeat the offence. . I am not a teetotaller, and sometimes visit the hotels in the city, but what surprises me is the men" that are drunk being served with liquor. To:iny mind if the licensing committees did th£r duty there would be no necessity to vote for prohibition or against; they have the opportunity each year to reduce them considerably by refusing-to grant' a license to these houses that are convicted of these and other offences.— • I am, etc., , • '
HOPEFUL.
