DR A. R. TUCKER.

Dr A. R. Tucker, ex-Bishop of Uganda, died suddenly to-day. He became ill in the Cloisters of Westminster Abbey yesterday, and died at the Deanery.

On his retirement from the episcopacy he was appointed Canon of Durham.] A. G. STEEL, K.C. LONDON, June 15. The death is announced of Allen G. Steel, the cricketer. [Allen Gibson Steel, K.C., Recorder of Oldham, was a famous cricketer away back ill the seventies and eighties of last century. Born in 1858, he learnt his cricket at Marlborough, and represented Cambridge against Oxford from 1878 to 1881 (he was captain in 1880). Then he played for Lancashire for many years. For a long period, too, he appeared for the Gentlemen of England in their annual matches with the Players—in the match at Lords in 1879 he bowled unchanged with A. H. Evans. Steel represented England in thirteen test matches against Australian teams, scoring 600 runs, with an average of 35.29, and taking 29 wickets, at an average cost of 21 runs per wicket. At Lord's, in July, 1884, he scored 148 for England against Australia, and at Sydney, in February, 1883, he scored 135 not out for the Hon. Ivo Bligh's team v. Australia.]
