SIXTY YEARS OLD.
AND GOING STRONG. rress Association. WELLINGTON, June .16. Just sixty years after her first launch into the waters of the Clyde the Wauganui trader Stormbird came off the patent slip to-day after her annual overhaul, ready for another year's work. The Stormbird has had a notable career and is believed to be the oldest steamer in commission in the world. She was built to act with another small steamer, the Wonga Wonga, as tender to two liners for the then projected Melbourne-Panama service. The Stormbird came out to Melbourne from the Clyde under sail in 116 days. The Panama project failing, she was engaged in the Melbourne-Westport service, and subsequently entered the New Zealand coastal trade.
