SUMNER NOTES.
Whilst driving home from the city one evening last week, the horse attached to the trap containing Mr and Mrs Albert Hines and family, of Redcliffs, fell dead whilst passing through M 'Cormick's Bay. The occupants were precipitated into the roadway, but, fortunately, escaped with nothing more than a severe shaking. A little girl had a narrow escape from serious injury on Sunday morning whilst playing with a companion on top of Castle Rock. She apparently missed her foothold and fell to the bottom, fortunately striking the sands. Two gentlemen, who noticed the accident, rendered assistance, and the child was conveyed to Beach House, where she is staying.
The recent heavj l " rains have cut into the esplanade, near the "-tramway viaduct, two bad gaps having appeared. These constitute a serious danger to pedestrians at night, and, it is hoped the council will have them filled in as soon as possible.
