MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

(Before Mr H. W. Bishop, S.M.) DRUNKENNESS. First offenders were dealt with and fined 5/- with the alternative of twentyfour hours' imprisonment. Ernest Stevens, a second offender, was fined 10/- and given the alternative of forty-eight hours' gaol. Andrew Watson was similarly dealt with. AN OLD STAGER. Emily Watson, who had 44 previous convictions, said she was very sorry she had been drunk. She had only come out of gaol a week. She was also charged with vagrancy, but was remanded until Saturday to allow the police to make enquiries as to which home would receive her. SENT TO AUCKLAND. Keith Russel Jones was charged that he had forged a cheque for £lO with the name of L. F. Meuli, of Auckland. He was remanded to appear at Auckland on June 18. CIVIL CASES. Judgment by default with costs was entered for plaintiff in the following eases: —Charles Arthur Mallard v. Oliver W. Olson, £3; John Streeter v. Joseph G. Williams, £5; Bell Bros. v. R. Black senr., £8 7/6; Hy. Berry & Co. v. Lundon & Son, £l4 2/4; Louisa Wilkinson v. Hy. John Thackwell, £7 8/6; Ernest Braid v. Samuel John Bryce, 8/6; Warre Hockley & Co. v. Daniel A. Ferguson, £2 2/11; N.Z. Insurance Co. v. John Watson, £5 16/6; Kincaids, Ltd. v. John Faliey, £3 2/2. TWO CLAIMS. The International Harvester Company (Mr Wright) claimed from James Patterson (Mr Wilding) the sum of £32 17/8, for goods supplied and unpaid promissory note and interest. Judgment was for plaintiff company for £25 3/11. In the case in which S. Stanford (Mr Leathern) claimed from J. Bishop (Mr Malley) chattels valued at £2O, judgment was for defendant with costs. Defendant was alleged to have unlawfully detained a gig and harness, but plaintiff failed to establish his claim to ownership of the chattels.
