"MONEY I WANT."
STRANGE TALE OF THREAT. Press Association. AUCKLAND, June 15. Patrick Gunn, aged 18, was charged, at the Police Court that, at Kohimarama, on May 21, being armed with a revolver, he assaulted Ellen Cook, with intent to rob her. Mrs Cook stated that she is the wife of a labourer living at Kohimarama. About midday the accused enquired for the manager, and she replied she was the manager. Accused then displayed a revolver and pointed it at her, saying "Stand aside, or I'll fire! Money I want, and money I'll have." He ordered her to get her handbag, which was hanging in the kitchen, and she spread the contents of the bag on the table. There was,, a threepenny bit, two pennies and a halfpenny, but accused did not take the money. He left, remarking, '' If you don't leave this place in half an hour, you'll be a dead woman.'' A fortnight later she saw the accused in Queen Street, and pointed him out to her husband, who took accused to a constable. The defence was that Mrs Cook had mistaken the identity of her assailant. He pleaded not guilty, and was committed for trial.
