The prospects of an amicable arrangement are bright, but if they fail to materialise a rate war will follow. SAFETY AT SEA. LONDON, May 29. The text of Mr John Burns.'s Bill, giving to the Safety at Sea Commission's recommendations, lias been issued. It provides that every, ship, carrying 50' persons .must he furnished with wireless. Penalties are provided for failure to communicate by wireless dangers to navigation. Tins morning tlie steamer Mimiro, from
Liverpool, via. ports, arrived at Lyttelton. As she has a fairly large cargo to put out here, it is expected that she will"not leave port for Dunedin till early next waek. The John Hardie, with a part cargo of case oil for discharge, arrived in the stream late last night, and was berthed early this morning.
Having sailed from Hobart on Thursday, the Nexv; Zealand Shipping Company's liner Rotorua is due at Wellington "early on Monday morning, and. her southern passengers should reach Lyttfelton on Tuesday. In all probability the Rotorua will reach here on Saturday next. The steamer Batsi'ord, en route from Canada to New Zealand ports, via Australia, arrived at Sydney yesterday. On Monday the steamer Westmeath is fixed to leave Wellington for Avonmouth, via Las Palmas. It is expected that the steamer Borderer will leave Wellington to-day for Lyttelton to discharge the local portion of her cargo of hardwood. ■ The Aorangi, that was recently withdrawn from the San Francisco service, is now undergoing overhaul at Sydney. To-day the steamer Tannerfels is expected to leave Sydney for New Zealand ports. She is running under the auspices of the S. & A. Line, and is due here about two weeks hence. ThcKittawa is expected to leave for the North on Monday night. This evening the Kiwi leaves for Greymouth. . Over three months ago the General Grant salvage brigantine sailed from San Francisco for the Aiickland Island, and en route calls were to be made at the' Society Islands and Bluff. So far, however, no advice has been received concerning the'whereabouts of the vessel,. and this 'is causing a good, deal; of curiosity on the waterfront at Bluff. v
