LEAGUE RUGBY.

A NEW CLUB FORMED.

There was a fair attendance of followers of the League at a meeting held in Dr Thacker's house last evening, to consider the question of forming a new club. . . Dr Thacker, who presided, said that - the meeting had been called for rather an important purpose. At the present time the four clubs participating in the • League senior competitions all came / from the suburbs, and it had, been felt ;that it was time a club was raised to 'embrace .players in the city. The starting club, was a difficult matter, and he thought that if they could, get going they would soon receive plenty of support. Now that the meeting had been called they wanted to achieve something definite. Mr E. L. Butler thought that a club could easily be formed and carried on. He said he knew of several players who would join in with them, but who were at present hesitating because they feared they might be out of their element. He moved: —"That a new Rugby League Club be formed, and that it be named the Christchurch-, City League Club." The motion was seconded by Mr H. G. Cook, and on being.put to the meet- ' ing was carried unanimously.

Office-bearers were elected as follow: President, Mr T. Cowlishaw; vice-presi-dents, Messrs H. N. Robinson, T. Ward, J. Holmes, S. Barrett, C. H. Croxton, N. Duncan, S. Staples, P. C. Ereeth, and Crs J. Reynolds and B. Haywood; secretary, Mr L. Guiney. On the motion- of Dr Thacker, it was decided that the members present form themselves into an organising committee, each member of whom to recognise it as incumbent on him to secure at least*three playing members. Mr E. L. Button was appointed convener of the committee. The first general meeting of the club was Axed for Thursday evening next, May 21, at Dr Thacker's house. A vote of thanks to Dr Thacker for the use of his room concluded the meeting.
