The' Canterbury Egg Circle now numbers 100 members, mostly farmers. _ An effort is being made to raise the circle' to .500 members for the coming season. Messrs Craddoek, M 'Crostie and Co., in conjunction with Speirs, -Saunders and Co., submitted to auction eight building sites situated in Westminster Street, St. Albans. One was sold to Mr Mauder at £K!O. The remainder were passed in. HOKSE SALE. To-day the entry at the weekly horse sale at Tattersalf's yards was not ,big, on account of other attractions. The majority of the catalogue was not of show ring quality, but anythiug useful brought good values. A draught mare submitted on account of Mr J. W. M'Kay, Springston, brought £-!7. Prices for the.better classes of investment .stocks still show a tendency/to
increase, but in one'or two instances prices have declined. Sellers are scarce, and any lines quoted find a ready sale.. There is every indication that money for investment stocks is plentiful, and buyers "will have to prices if they 'desire to do itjusiness. '.' National Bank.—These shares have remained practically stationary; buyers still offering- £5 1-/-, with sellers at £5 14/-.. \. ■ ' Fnion Bank. —Buyers are offering £(SO .10/-, with sellers at £6f. ■ At the buying price these shares will return 6 per cent., and are a first-class in vestment. Gas. —Christchnrch Gas: One sale lias ibeen reported at .£7 -5/-, and at the close of the week ..buyers..wore .offering £7 2/(5, but sellers were holding, for £7 6/6. ;."_••■. • * "Wellington Gas.—Several sales have been reported at £lO 7/- to. £l6 7/(5, with sellers at the latter figure. Auckland Gas. —Sales have been reported at SO/-, with sellers at SO/6. Insurance. —There are still buyers for all issues of insurance shares, the only stocks showing sellers being New Zealand' ami National. N.Z. Insurance.—Last week prices increased to £6 5/-, but declined to £6 1/6. They, however, quickly recovered, and buyers are now offering £6 :'/-• At the latter figures these shares show a return upon investment of nearly 5 per cent.
National Insurance. —Sales have been reported at 53/6, and there are sellers at present at the same figure. Standard Insurance. —Quotations of 33/9 have been regularly- made, bat no business has,been reported. Meats.—C'hristehureh Meat Company: No business has been reported, but tlKvre is a strong demand for all issues of these shares.
■Shipping. —Union Steam Ship Co.: Sales have been reported at £1 5/6 and Ail VS. There is a steady demaud for the ordinary issue, but sellers are not
inclined to dispose, of their holdings until the declaration of the half-yearly dividend, which is due this month. Sales of the prefereiice issue have been recorded at 21/-, and sellers are now asking 21/6. N.Z. Shipping.—Sellers of the ordinary issue are asking £l6, without business resulting. The preference issue are wanted at £lO 5/-.
Coal.—Westport: Bidding for these shares has continued brisk, and buyers are quoting 30/-. No sales have been reported, but to-d.-n-'s list shows sellers at HO/6. Miscellaneous.—Bowron Bros.' shares have advanced another ;U1 in price during the week, buyers now offering 7/-, but sellers are not inclined to sell under 7/1).
Farmers' Co-ops.—These shares have declined recently, and sellers have been reported at £2 6/-.
Whiteombe and Tombs. —Buyers are offering £o 18/-, but no business has been reported. Golden Bay Cement.—Buyers have regularly offered 19/-, and "there is a keen demand for these shares, without business resulting. Mining.—Wai hi: Sales at the end of last week were reported at -11/-, and prices have gradually "firmed to 42/9. To-day's quotations are: Buvers 4;:/9, sellers 44/-. '
"Waihi Grand .Junction.—Sales have been reported at from 25/6 to -6/."!, but declined to 24/9. To-dav's quota : tions arc 24/(>, sellers _•>/-• Talisman.—These shares have remained almost stationary.
