THE COLSTON SOCIETY.
ENTERTAINS MR RISELEY. Mr Henry L. Riseley's visit to Christchurch was the occasion of a pleasant gathering of old Bristolians at the Colston .Society's rooms in Gloucester street last-evening. The president, Mr E. M. Lovell-Smith, briefly introduced the guest of the evening. Mr Riseley, who was greeted with applause, spoke of the societies of Bristolians which were formed in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Vancouver, Durban, Berth, Melbourne, and Sydney; and kept his audience spellbound with his stories of Bristol men in aH parts of the Empire. He especially made a goint of the advantages gained by Bristolians abroad banding themselves together for the purpose of keeping . in touch with each other and the societies in the old laud. He also interested and delighted the members by bringing to their notice the great progress Bristol lias made during the last few years, a statement which was endorsed later in the evening by three members who had recently returned from a visit to their old land. Mr Riseley concluded by expressing the hope that the Society would grow in numbers, thereby strengthening the link that bound them to the old land.
A vote of thanks was passed to the speaker, eulogistic; . references beingmade to Mr Kiseleyand hi.s work by Messrs Chas. Chaplin, H. F. Andrews, Geo. Barrel!, G. H.; Hall and Wesley Smith. The meeting closed with musical honours for MriKiselev and cheers for "Good old Bristol."
