OVERCROWDED SCHOOLS.
We have been askj£d to publish the following open from, thjei' executive of the North Canterbury School Committees' Association to the chairmen of all school committees whose householders' meeting' carried or supported the association's resolution of protest in this matter: — To the Editor of THE SUN.
Sir,—Re overcrowded schools and unsuitable accommodation following the circular sent by our association, embodying the resolution on this matter placed before your householders? meeting, we are now pleased to inform you that subsequent to a conference between ; the executive of my association and some members of the Education Board; our association "finds that, owing to strenuous representations made by the board and other parties, grants have been more freely made by the Department, which grants enable the board to extend and hurry on its suburban building programme. The executive feels that' under these circumstances it is hardly necessary to carry the agitation any further at present. If- your committee's view r s are at variance with this decision, we should be glad to hear from- you, as under the present enlarged building projects' Opawa and Somerfield appear to be the only two suburban schools whose immediate grievances concerning the insufficient and unsuitable accommodation do not stand to be substantially remedied within the next few months. —We are, etc., W. C. LARGE, President. GEO. E. FRANKLIN, Hon. Sec.
