OBITUARY.
MRS A. Q. TOWNEND. Mrs Annie Quayle Townend, the widow of the la.tc Dr Joseph Henry Townend, L.S.A., died to-day at '' Glenholme,'' Cashmere. She had been unwell during the past fortnight. Mrs Townend was the only surviving daughter of the late Mr George 11. Moore, of Glenmark. The deceased lady was known for her consistent and quiet charity —she was secret almost in the way in which she aided others. There has been no deserving cause which she has not helped, and few organisations for the relief of suffering which she has not assisted. Further, Mrs Townend has taken the most keen interest in the development of Canterbury. She has watched most carefully the growth and development of the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association, and has done all in her power to further the breeding of sheep in the province. In fact, all that relates to the agricultural and pastoral wealth and development of the country have been her interests.
For herself, Mrs Townend gave much of her attention to flowers, and her collections of hothouse flowers and rare plants are probably enequalled in the Dominion. Mrs Townend left no children.
