At the animal Assembly of the Congregational TJjiion, Principal Forsyth, of Hackney College, discussing the question of the Church and tjie nation, said the relations between tlieni had speedily become a'eutc, owing to the rise of the modern State, wliicli asserted pagan absolutism by its claim to be the source of "all the rights of society. This was a Csesarist claim which the Church could never recognise.
