The annual-report of the Boyal Northwest Mounted Police is, to the people of Western Canada, one of the most interesting Blue Books issued. The force now numbers 763 lhen, and this comparatively small body patrols a territory which is larger than Europe, with a varied-and floating population, many of whom do not understand either the English language or the spirit of English Jaw. Under such conditions, the work accomplished by the force is little short of marvellous. During the year 15,443 cases were dealt with by the poliee. Convictions numbered 12,985, and the remainder were dismissed, withdrawn, or not tried. The Commission recommends confiscation ox all weapons found with immigrants at ports of enfoy*; This is one of tlie finest forces in the world, and appeals to many young Englishmen. ~ - Your health is the first consideration; build-up your system with Baxter's,JLung Preserver, and protect yourself- against winter coughs and colds.
