Yesterday morning the Shaw, Savill steamer Zealandic left Xiyttelton for "Wellington and Napier for Homeward loading pur'poses. SJie afterwards calls at Gisborne and and leaves the latter port about jfehe end of the month for fcondon. i Mr Roy Cable, youngest son of Mr Wm, tCable, of 'Wellington, has joined the Star of rVictbria as" an extra engineer lor the trip [home. ; The Kaiapoi Shipping Company's steamer Wootton, which left Lyttelton last Wednesday [for Foxton had not arrived at that port this [morning, so is two days overdue. The vessel [was pro"bahly sheltering during the heavy southerly weather experienced last Friday land Saturday. The Kairaki is still in the graving dock at Lyttelton undergoing repairs and overhaul. According to an exchange, two well-known shipmasters—Captain G. C. Best, and Captain G. R. "Greenwood —have died in Auckland within the past few days. Captain Best, who was 73 .years of age, came to Sew Zealand, in the 'sixties as chief officer of the ship Ida Zeigler, and was at different times harbourmaster at Thames, Tauranga, and Russell. For many years before his death he was in business in Auckland as a marine surveyor. Captain Greenwood was best known as master and pwner of the barque Devonport, trading between Auckland, Kaipara, and Australian ports. Some years afterwards he purchased the barque Asia, which at one time belonged to the old fleet of whalers sailing out of Hobart. After trading between New Zealand and Australian ports for some years, he sold the Asia, arid purchased the four-masted barque City of Adelaide. With this vessel he traded between Australia and the Pacific Coast.
