CORDIAL RELATIONS.
RAILWAYMEN AND MINISTER. Press Association. DUNMDIN, May 5. Representatives of the Railway Officers' Institute of Dunedin waited on the Minister (the Hon. W. H. Herries) at noon, to thank him for the improvel in cuts effected in the service by the Act ! and the regulations of last session. j The interview was of a very cordial I character. Mr Kane, in expressing thanks, said the Act had practically given them all they desired. He felt absolutely certain that re-classification would be carried out in the same thorough manner, lie had not found a | single case of dissatisfaction. 1 Mr Ennis said that the Act certainly I made improvements in the service. If the classification were done on the lines arranged, it would go a long way to make the men work harder. It would make thorn more contented than they had been for many years. [ Mr Herries, in acknowledging the spirit ami purpose of the interview, said the men's just demands had been fairly considered. He was personally gratified to learn that they appreciated the manner in which he had carried out his promises, and was extremely pleased to hear that there was a better tone among i the men, as that was what was desired. I He felt certain that the Institute would I bring forward only legitimate grievj ances, and if they could be removed, jo remedy would be provided by the headquarters staff. It was the desire of the Head Office to work in entire amity with the different representatives of the employees, and if these'cordial relations were maintained, the better for the travelling public.
