lii consequence of tlie entry of tlie Willoelira into the mail service, some important changes are to be made in the intercolonial trade, says an exchange. For some time the Union Company has been considering the advisability of running a "ferry" service between Wellington and Sydney with the larger steamers, and maintaining the Wellington-Melbourne connection with smaller vessels. This system is about to be given a trial. The Willochra, which is due at Wellington from Sydney on Wednesday next, will remain in port till Friday, May 8, when she will return to Sydney. The Maitai, which is due here from Melbourne, via the south, on Friday, will take the Willochra's transhipments and return to Melbourne on the same day. The Moeraki —the next steamer from Sydney to Wellington —will' go right through to Melbourne. On Wednesday, May 20, the Willochra will arrive at Wellington en route to San Francisco. There will be no steamer from Wellington to Melbourne, .via the south, that week. The following week, however, -will see the service established, and it will be maintained by the Maunganui and Moeraki from Sydney to Wieilington and back, and the Maitai arid MokOia from Wellington to Melbourne and baek.
