A NEW SCHOOL.
OPENED AT OURUHIA. After an agitation lasting three years the people of the Ouruhia district, east of Chaney's Corner have secured a school, which was opened yesterday. The ceremony was attended by Messrs H. vßoyd, G. Andrews, and G. Rennie, representing the North Canterbury Education Board, accompanied by Mr H. C. Lane, secretary, and Mr W. Brock, chief inspector. Mr Boyd having declared the school open, afternoon tea followed. Mr Boyd, in his opening speech, re ferred to the work that had led up to the getting of the school, complimenting Mr J. Brown on the energy and perseverance that he, in' particular, bad shown. Mr G. Rennie, chairman of the Building Committee of the board, said that the new school building had cost £330, fencing and draining £4O, and the land £l2O. He urged that the district should do its share by keeping the grounds in good order, so adding to the educative value of the place. Other speakers included Messrs W. Brock, H. C. Lane, W. J. Walters, Nicholls, A. P. Hopkins, and J. Brown. Apologies for absence were received from the Hon. James Allen, Minister of Education, Mr G. Witty, M.P., Mr J. C, Adams, Mr C. H. A. T. Opie, and Mr Spencer.
