THE EGG MARKET.

Canterbury Egg Circle eggs were in keen demand to-day. ' Up to 2/6 could have been obtained, but sellers decided to keep the price at 2/1 for first grade, and .1/9 to 1/10 for second grade. The Wanganui circle will not raise the price above 2/- in winter, nor lower than 1/in summer. This' encourages consumption and works out a better average price. There is a general feeling among the Canterbury egg circle, which now numbers 80 members, to adopt the same procedure to encourage the •consumption of eggs right" through the year.

DUNEDIN STOCK EXCHANGE.

DUNEDIN, May 2. Sale: Waihi 43/3. THE SHARE MARKET. x In last week's report we anticipated a brisk market for this week, with a steady but regular advance in investment stocks. It will be seen from a perusal of the lists of the various stock exchanges of the Dominion that our anticipations have been fully realised. The bidding has been very brisk indeed, and the several markets are very active. Buyers are very keen, and they are considerably in excess of sellers. The demand, for all the better class of investment stocks continues, and all lines quoted at market prices are readily placed.- The mining market shows some recovery, and regular quotations have been made during the week. A fair business has been done in Waihi Grand Junctions, and Progress shares have also received attention.

Banks.—Bank of New Zealand shares: During the past week the x fully-paid issue (£8 13/4) have been sold at £l6 6/- to £l6 12/6. The latest buying quotation is £l6 12/6, and we anticipate a further increase in the price of this issue. The issue £3 6/8-paid has also advanced in price, and buyers are offering £lO 5/-. National Banks: These shares have rapidly advanced during the past week, and sales have been reported at £5 10/-, an advance on last week's figures'of 3/-. At"£s 10/- these shares show a return upon investment of £5 18/- per cent., and appear good buying. There is no doubt that the market price will advance again. Bank of Australasia: A sale of Bank of Australasia Shares was made on the local Stock Exchange at £123. Financial. —A sale of National Mortgage was reported from Dunedin at £4 5/-. Gas. —Christehurch Gas: No business has been reported during the week, but buyers have increased from £7 to £7 2/6. Wellington Gas: Several sales have been again reported at £l6 7/6, the latest market quotation being £l6 6/-, sellers £l6 7/6. There appears to be a keen demand for these shares. .

Insurance,—Buyers qf all issues of insurance shares have quoted firm prices on all the exchanges, and any lines that have been offered at market rates, or even a little above, have been readily placed.

N.Z. ' Insurance. —Prices have increased from £6 to £6 2/6, at which figure sales have been made. Buyers are still offering this price. National Insurance: It was anticipated that these shares had reached their high-water mark at 52/-, but buyers evidently consider they are worth more, as offers at 53/- have failed to command business. Standard Insurance: The latest market price is 33/3, and the return upon investment at this figure is £5 18/8 per cent. It is anticipated that these shares will gradually increase in price. Meats. —Christchurch Meat Co.: Although the demand for the fully paid issue continues at £l6 7/6, no sales have reported. Sales have been made: £4 15/- for the £3 issue, and £3 2/6 for the £2 issue.

Shipping.—Union Steam Ship Co.: Bidding for these shares during this week has not been as brisk as formerly. Doubtless investors are awaiting the declaration of the half-yearly dividend which is due this month.

Coal. —Taupiris: This company declared a dividend of 9d per share, which they paid during the week, but no sales have been reported since; Sellers are quoting 21/6. Miscellaneous. —Sellers . of Crown breweries are quoted at 36/- and Manning 's at 82/6, the latter cum. div. without buyers. Sales of Bowrons have ,been reported at 6/3, and several buyers are now offering 6/6. The latter figures show an advance of 6d over the previous week. Farmers' Co-op.: These have advanced from 45/6 to 47/- with a sale reported at the latter figure. Buyers are now offering 47/-, but sellers are inclined to hold for'4B/-. A sale of Taranaki Oil Wells at 4/6 was reported and sellers are now asking 5/-. Whitcombe & Tombs have advanced in price by 3/6, and a sale has been reported at £5 15/6, with buyers still offering this figure. Mining.—Waihi: The market has only fluctuated slightly this week. Sales were made from 44/- to 44/6, but declined to 44/3, To-day's quotation shows buyers 43/-, sellers 44/-. Waihi Grand Junction: Business has been brisk and many sales have been reported. A dividend of 1/has been recommended by the directors. Sales have been reported from 27/6 to 28/-. The latest sales have been made at 27/6, while to-day's quotations show buyers 27/6, sellers 27/9. Talisman: There has been a steady decline in this stock. The week opened with sales at 38/6, succeeding sales showing 37/6, 37/3 and 36/3. To-day's quotation shows buyers 36/6, sellers 37/-. Ross: Several sales have been reported, and the market sliows considerable improvement. Commencing with sales at 2/10 the market improved to 3/-, 3/2, and 3/9, while 3/11 was the highest price obtained. To-day's quotation shows b livers 3/6, sellers 4/6.
