Mr D. Buchanan left for Wellington last night. Mr R. O. Duncan went to Wellington last night.

Mr J. K. Little is leaving to-day on a visit to England. Dr. Stevenson was a passenger for the north last night. Captain M'Kenzie was a passenger for the north last night. Sir George Clifford was a passenger for the north yesterday evening. The Rev. Father Obreys came to Christchurch yesterday. Captains Carey and Foster arrived by the Wahine to-day.

The Hon. Jas. Allen arrived from Wellington this morning. The Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. H. Herries, will visit the South Island next week.

Mr F. Marshall, of the literary staff of the "Evening Post," Wellington, returns north to-night.

Lieutenant-General Sir lan Hamilton is a passenger for New Zealand by the Moeraki which left Melbourne last evening.

Mr H. K. Burns, headmaster of the Newmarket School, has been appointed Inspector under the Auckland Education Board.

The general manager of the National Bank, Mr J. Coates, returned to Wellington last night, having been here since Tuesday. Mr A. W. Bradley, of Lower Egypt, who has been in Christchurch for the past week, will remain over Sunday by invitation of the Y.M.C.A. Visitors at the United Service include: — Messrs J. Mills (Timaru), J. Corsie (Wellington), and Harrison J ones (Dunedin). Amongst those staying at Warner's are:—Messrs Max Idng (Germany), P. M'Neil (Dunedin), O. W. Rutherford (Mendip Hills), R. O. Dixon (Eyreton), and L. J. Frank (Nelson). On the occasion of his approaching marriage, Mr A. Fuchs has been presented with a fine .pair of pictures, the gift of his fellow-members of the railway booking office staff. Mr N. M'Robie, assistant secretary to the New Zealand Employers' Federatien, has resigned his position, and will return to Waihi to resume charge of the '' Waihi Daily Telegraph.''

It is reported that the General Manager of Railways, Mr E. H. Hiley, will leave Wellington on Monday for the Scutii Island, where he will spend a month travelling over the system and attending to railway business.

Mr Wm. Hutchison a one-time wellknown New Zealand sporting journalist, but now cn the staff of the Johannesburg "Daily Mail," left for the north last evening, on his return journey to South Africa.

Mr E. Lockwood, of Christchurch, who has been on a holiday sojourn in Sydney, was. a passenger by the Maunganui, which arrived on Tuesday. He will remain in Wellington a few days before returning to this city.

The Rev. F. R. Jeffreys, who has been in charge of the Presbyterian Church at St. Andrews, South Canterbury, for the past three years, has left to take the position of superintendent of the Social Service Association of the Presbyterian Church in Auckland.

The Maccabean Society, London entertained Mr A. M. Myers, M.P., of New Zealand, at dinner in the Great Central Hotel. Lord Enimott, the Hon Thomas Mackenzie (High Commissioner), Sir John Anderson, and Mr Israel Zangwill, the novelist, were present. —Press Association.

The Eight Hon. Sir Joseph Ward, who returned to Wellington from Sydney yesterday, arrived in Christchurch this morning, accompanied by Lady Ward. He will proceed south by the first express to-morrow. He is to pay a visit to Queenstown, and in all probability will address a public meeting there on Monday evening next. He has also received a request to deliver an address at Mosgiel, in reply to the Hon. W. F. Massey. The Architects' Registration Board, a body constituted under the New Zealand Institute of Architects Act, 1913, has just been set up (says the '' .Dominion.'') It consists of six members, three of them appointed by the Governor-in-Council, and three by the Institute of Architects. The Government members are: —Mr James Hector M'Kay (of Crichton and M'Kay), Wellington; Mr George Goldsbrough, Auckand Mr Basil Hooper, Dunedin. The members appointed by the institute are: —Mr A. Atkins (of Atkins and Baccn), Wellington; Mr S. HurstSeager, Christchurch; and Mr P. Y. Wales (of Mason and Wales), Dunedin.
