ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FOUND DROWNED. Press Association. GORE, April 22. A single man named John Thomas Tretheway, aged thirty-seven, was found drowned in the Waikaia River this morning, close to Waikaia. Deceased was subject to epileptic fits. He was last seen last night going towards the river, accompanied by a dog.
CHILD DROWNED. WANG AN Ul, April 22. A child named Alice Jane Phillips, aged one year and nine months, while playing in a back yard to-day, fell into a tub of water and was drowned. SUICIDE WITH BUTCHER'S KNIFE. HASTINGS, April 23. A man named George Lansdowne, 45 years of age, and single, residing with his father at Haveloek North, committed suicide yesterday afternoon by cutting his throat with a butcher's knife. He succumbed an hour later. KILLED ON THE LINE. GISBORNE, April 23. Edwin Whaite, aged 55, a clerk of the Public Works Department at Rakauroa, was travelling from Rakauroa to Otoko on a jigger. He was overtaken by a raiway engine and killed. He was a widower with seven children.
