Choate's opin- j ion was placed on record, showing that j the exemption of American , ships j .through the Canal was precluded by j the tone of the correspondence whenj the Hay-Pauncefote treaty was being,; negotiated. ; j | Mr J. Tlie Panama, Canal Trade Bill has been introduced. It provides for the subsidising 'of the Nippon Yusen lvaisha line by 10,000.yen per voyage for 17 voyages yearly between Japan and New York.
