WATER SUPPLY.
To the Editor of THE SUN. Sir, —In your report on the Lake Coleridge works, you say that the • water, after leaving the turbines as waste.;, iwater, is run into the Bakaia -. river, ,Now, could not that water be utilised. and filtered, a large reservoir ' erected arid pipes laidt'6 conduct'the water tto supply Christchurch and all surrounding> boroughs? -, The : ; Christchurch Council's water supply is falling . oii". ' There is word of erecting another reservoir apd sinking another well, which means that the water rates will • be raised. I see by THE SUN-to-night that the city surveyor has been author-' ised to purchase from, the Christchurch Gas" ; Oorfrpa;ny coke at'2^/6 A per ton. Add 4/6 for cartage and 50 tons per month comes to, r £9oo per year, which would go a gopd*way towards paying interest on the loan money to Bring a water supply from . iLake Coleridge. '. There would be a big, saving, at;,the pumping station at Christehiirch, and the fire brigade could do' with more water and a higher pressure.—-I am, etc., :'z ; . F.S.
