STANDARD BUSHEL CASE.
FOR FEUIT. I -Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 17. A discussion took place to-day at a meeting of fruit-growers on a proposal favouring the adoption of a standard bushel case for apples and pears. Mr J. B. Tonar (Waitemata Go-operative Society) 'said that the proposed ease was not the same as the Canadian case. The latest instructions of the Canadian Government were that none but standard cases should be carried on their railways, and there was thus :a chance thet 1100 cases which were shipped, .from here by the Niagara last week will have to be re-packed before consignment on the Canadian railways. Mr -E. Morrison (Wavkworth) recommended the. new square case suggested by the Government on the ground that it -contained an Imperial bushel. A standard New Zealand case would soon become known in the outside markets.
The -Chairman said what they wanted Avas uniformity. * Mr Tonar stated that a representative of a Canadian firm which handled more fruit each year than 'New Zealand would produce in twenty years, had told him that the new case would not be accepted in Canada, so strict were the railway regulations. He -suggested awaiting reports Avhich were expected from Canada.
It was agreed to recommend to the Government the adoption of a standard case.
