PIGEON FLYING.
The Christchureh Homing Pigeon Society flew oft' its annual Juvenile Stakes rai/e last Saturday. Only birds wearing 1913' metal rings were eligible to compete. Seventy-eight birds were nominated, but only 53 were sent, divided amongst 18 lofts competing. The birds were in care of the chief oflieer of the Warrimoo, and were liberated at 7.30 a.m. at a point, north of Clarence River in fine -weather with a north-west wind. The winner proved to be Mr A. Finlayson's Explorer, which traversed the distance of 111 miles 1366 yards air line in 3hr 55min 23sec. The following is the order they finished:—
A. Finlayson's Explorer, 1059 yards per minute; K. Giles's Devon, 1054; A. Kilday's Curieo, 1054; J. Jnkson's Blue Gown, 10o2; A. Hancock's Scotch Melody 1052; E. fuck's CorulStalk, 1051; F. Smith's Bon Bon, 1051; E. Howe's Joey, 1047; J. Golding's Miss Reta, 1044; A. Johnson's Mortana, 1034; F. Kingsford's Clansman, 1020; M. Gray's Ladybird, 1024; A. Farrell's Master Surprise, 1022; J. Barter's Midget, 1018; T. Xewton's Diadem, 1016; R. M'Gloin's Plunkett, 1014; O. Lilly's Tango, 991. Mr A. Finlayson will hold for one year the W. A. Jnkson challenge silver teapot for Juvenile Stakes races.
