BOROUGH COUNCILS.
SPREYDON. The fortnightly meeting of the Spreydon Borough Council was heloMast evening, when the deputy-Mayor (Cr E. H. Clark) presided, and there were als6 present:—Crs W. IT. Winsor, T. Woods, E. Hayes, A. Manhive, D. Sykes and S. A. Hancock. An apology for absence was received from the Mayor (Mr G. R. Whiting), who is at present in Wellington. The Works' Committee in its report stated that it had reconsidered the question of imposing a wheel tax on tire Halswell Quarries Company, Ltd., and could not see, its way to amend the previous report, viz., that the wheel tax be imposed on the company. The committee also stated that a report would be brought before the next council,] meeting in regard to re-metalling or'; shingling all the road requiring attentionf The report was adopted.
The By-laws' Committee in its report recommended that the minimum frontage of sections be reduced to &fty feet, and the minimum area to thirty perches, unless with special permission of the council; also that Mr F. Laws be given special permission seeing that he has 54 feet 6 inches frontage, with an erea of twenty two perches. A great deal of discussion arose in reigard to this matter and it was eventually decided to refer the matter back !to the By-laws Committee for further 'consideration, a further report to be anade at the next meeting of the council. The Finance Committee reported that tthere was a credit balance of £664 5/4' ion the district fund account, and a ■credit balance of £540 1/9 on the loan
LYTTELTON. . The fortnightly meeting of the LytItelton Borough Council was held last might; present:—the Mayor (Mr J. B. Webb)7 'and Councillors N. C. Schuanaeher, G. B. Eieh, J. T. Norton, J. H. iGollins, N. J. Millar, "W. T. Foster, W. Badeliffe, F. J. Page, and J. Guthrie. ~ The Gasworks Committee reported ithat it had no recommendation to make with regard to placing of street lamps in Godley Quay to light the path at the iback of the New Zealand Shipping Company's shed. The resignation of Cr G. R.-Eich was received, and Cr N. J. Miller and other (councillors spoke in eulogistic terms of *he good work done "by Cr Rich during* Shis short term of office.
A letter from the Te Whaka Hoekey Club asking for a grant towards the expenses of compulsory, to Christchureh- was received. Jilt was decided that nothing could be Irdone in the matter, as the council was ;doing all that was in their power at [■present towards the furtherance of |< sport at the port. The eotmcil decided to meet Mr H. G. ', M.P., in committee next Wednesday to discuss rating on unimproved values. The financial statement to March 31, 1914, showed the district fund account in debit £8578 2/-, including temporary loans £8363 15/3. The Drainage Loan account was in credit £135 6711. The Diamond Harbour Estate account showed a credit balance of £4469 10/2. The expenditure to date was set down as £8530 9/10. Accounts presented for payment amounted to £3568 8/1.
