TANGO TEA.

AT THE THEATRE ROYAL. At the Theatre Royal yesterday afternoon the exponents of the muchanalysed tango danced their way into, the hearts of the audience, whom they carried with them in their happy exposition of the most popular dance of the day. The two principals, Miss Margot Maurice and Mr Fred. Oswald, danced the tango and the Argentine tango, Mr Oswald giving a brief explanation of the steps prior to the exhibition. The easy grace with which the dancers manipulated the numerous and intricate steps of the various dances was a revelation to the audience, and was certainly warranted to dispel any prejudice that might previously have existed. In his exhibition of ragtime dancing Mr Oswald was assisted by those members of the company who are knoAvn as the tango girls, the dances including the "Turkey Trot" and "Texas Tamy," the latter being somewhat reminiscent of the step dance. The rest of the dances comprised the tango by Miss Grace Palotta and Mr Fred Oswald, the Hacienda Tango by M. Henri Mareelle and Miss N. Fallon, and a ragtime song and dance by the Mullaney Twins. Songs were contributed by Misses Grace Palotta and Mabel Batchelor and Mr Cecil Houghton. A series of sketches from Charles Dickens was well rendered by Mr Bert Barton, and Miss Carrie Moore gave a musical monologue, "A Woman's Eyes." A grand display of dresses from Messrs Strange and Co.'s establishment was a feature of the programme. Tea was served'during the course of the afternoon, the programme concluding with a ragtime revue by Miss Margot Maurice and Mr Fred Oswald, assisted by the tango girls.
