WEDDING.
/ RUTHERFORD—HOLMES,
A wedding of considerable social importance was solemnised quietly at the Halswell Church to-day,.when Mr Eric Butherford, son of Mr and Mrs E. W. Butherf ord, Mendip Downs, was ■ marlied to Miss Gertrude Holmes, second daughter of Mr G. G. Holmes, of "Knocklynn," Halswell. The ceremony was held at 2 p.m., only the reia- . -fcives of the contracting parties being present. The bride, who was given ;V«,way by her father, wore her travelling < costume of blue brocade, and a chic little hat of black velvet. She was attended by her sister, Miss Nora Holmes, as bridesmaid, the latter wearing a ' smart navy costume- and hat en suite. 3lr Frank Rutherford accompanied his ■brother as best man. After the ceremony a reception was held at '' Knock- - ly»n,'' and . a rechechre wedding tea • served. Subsequently Mr and Mrs Eric , Rutherford left for a motor trip through the Canterbury district, and will later on make an extended tour of Australia. The bride added handsome furs to her travelling frock when leav- ■ ing. Mrs Holmes (mother of the bride) " -wore a handsome gown of grey satin, made in coat and skirt style, and hat in the same tones. Mrs Eutherford (mother of the bridegroom) was in a stylish navy tailored costume, effectively braided, and worn with a black Jiat with long white Lancer plume.
