IN THE CIVIL SERVICE.

WAGES AND EFFICIENCY.

COMMISSION'S RECOMMENDATIONS.

"Times" and "Sydney Sun" Services. (Received April 16, 9.2 a a.m.) LONDON, April 15.

The Civil Service Commission, in the course of a voluminous report, recommends the retention of competitive entrance examinations; also that the payment of women should be approximate to that of men where the same work is performed with equal efficiency, but that men's salaries should be higher when their efficiency is greater. The report urges that marriage should' necessitate the retirement of . women from the service, because its responsibilities are normally incompatible with the devotion of their whole time to the Public Service.
