EGG FARMERS' ASSOCIATION.
At the conclusion of the last monthly meeting of the. Canterbury Egg Farmers' Association, occasion was taken to hold an informal social, at which Mr C. D. Butler, of the New Zealand Provision and Produce Company, was presented with a set of pipes in recognition of the care and interest he had taken in forwarding the association's first shipment of eggs to Vancouver. This initial shipment proved very profitable business, and the association is now making arrangements for larger consignments in October, November, and December. There is stated to be some possibility of big shipments of eggs from China affecting the markets, but it is doubtful if the supply will be in such proportion to the demand as to affect prices greatly. Cheapness of production in China has some effect on the market, however, since Chinese eggs can be sold in Vancouver at 20 cents a dozen, and return a handsome profit, while the New Zealand producers requires to get 45 cents before getting an equal profit.
