Howarth, the jewel thief, was arrested in a sensational manner whilst getting on a train. He was carrying a bag of the stolen jewels, valued at £3OOO.

Later, seven of his confederates were arrested. The gang carelessly left their implements behind them on several occasions.

As all these were rjurchased from one fnm, the police easily traced the buyers. The gang carried mit.several substantial coups in London, Nice, and elsewhere. . ' ' \ ■
