NEW BRIGHTON NOTES.
The committee of the New Brighton Surf Club met on Monday evening. Present—Messrs C. Bryant, club captain (in the chair), L. Cookson, F. Cocks, F. Suter, E. Clarkson, L. C, Matson, G. E. Jones, R. A. Campbell, A. G. Munro, and A. P. Hopkins, hon. secretary. The chairman was authorised to interview the secretary of the Royal Life Saving Society re the proposed street collection, suggesting that after deducting expenses the proceeds should be equally divided between the bodies taking part. , . The free-of-debt cards resulted in an addition to the club's funds of £53 18/6, with 20 cards still to come in. It was left in the hands of the captain and treasurer to arrange, if possible, to reduce the mortgage on the pavilion with the money received. The details in connection with building being completed, the final account of £lB owing to, the builder was passed for payment. Mr P. Mills donated a handsome gold medal, lifebuoy design, for a life-saving test in the surf. Mr Mills was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his gift. It was decided to place on record that on February 13, 1914,.-while in Wellington, en route to Blenheim with the Canterbury swimmers, Mr F. Collins, a member of the club, dived fully clothed from the wharf and rescued a boy who had fallen into the harbour. The provision of accommodation for lady members was discussed, and it was decided to keep the matter in view for consideration when the club was free of its present liability. The chairman mentioned that the bathing being practically over, the club's duties on the beach were finished for the season.
