M. CALMETTE'S MURDER. PRESIDENT GIVES EVIDENCE. By Cable.—Press Association. —Copyright. PARIS, April 7. President Poincarg informed the Magistrate that M. Caillaux asked for ah interview on the day of M. Calmette's assassination. M. Caillaux told him that he feared that "Figaro" would publish letteVs involving his wife. He said, "If Calmette publishes our letters I'll kill him." M. Poincare endeavoured to calm; him. Later he conferred with M. Doumergue with a view to dispelling M. Caillaux's fears. He had just arranged to use his influence to prevent pilblication when he heard of the murder. M. Reichep, sub-editor of "Figaro," gave evidence that M. Caillaux, a month before the crime, told a member of the staff of "Figaro" that unless M. Calmette ceased his campaign he would kill him in a duel. M. Latzarus, a journalist, denied that M. Calmette intended to publish the letters. Their contents had , been bandied .about on all sides, and no newspaper dared sully its columns with them. .
