STOCK SALES.

ASHBURTON. . . The attendance at the Ashburton sale yesterday was xbxy good, but the entry was very much smaller than has been the case of late. The entry totalled 7433, as against 13,923 the previous week at the Tinwald yards, the decrease being principally in store sheep. The yarding inducted 765 fat ewes, 241 fat wethers, 229 fat lambs, and 6.198 stores. Freezing buyers were operating freely, and took the bulk of the fat ewes and all the lambs, while botchers took tlie majority of the wethers. The demand was very keen, and only a few small lines of unfinished sorts were passed by auction,- and prices were very firm, fat ewes making up to 20/9, fat wethers to 22/2, and fat lambs to 20/-, an extra heavy three making 28/-. The following range of prices was obtained:— Prime ewes, 17/- to 20/9; medium weights 15/- to 36/11, light weights 13/8 to 14/10, prime wethers 20/- to 22/2, others 18/-, prime freezing lambs 18/3 to 20/-, extra heavy 28/-, others 17/to 17/8. The yarding of store sheep included 1102 lambs and 531 wetherS, the balance being ewes. The quality of the ewes was not of the best. The demand was very limited, and of the yarding 4618 were passed by auction. Sales were:—2l halfbred mixed sex cpll lambs 11/3, 28 sound-mouth halfl>red ewes 16/-, 34 failing-mouth 11/8, 194 three-quarterbred mixed sex lambs 14/11, 43 sound-mouth three-quarter-bred ewes 17/6, 103 soujad and failing mouth do 14/10, 104 failing-mouth halfbred ewes 12/9, 130 three-quarter-bred mixed sex lambs 16/4. 102 half-

bred 13/8, 208 full and failing-mouth halfbred ewes 15/2, 31 at 13/9, 55 at 13/10, 77 broken-mouth halfbreil ewes 10/10, 109 two, four, six, ami eighttooth 13/4, 54 four, six, anil eight-tooth crossbred ewes 18/1, 59 sound anil fail-ing-jnouth 13/11, 88 four, six and eight-tooth, 24/8, 54 at 16/6. There was only a small yarding of cattle, fat steers making £4 12/6 to £7 17/6, fat cows £4 15/-, forward steers £4 5/-, dry cows 27/6, small stores 27/-, cow in profit £3 12/6, store heifer £3 5/-.

HAWARDEN. Some 2500 sheep were yarded at Ilawardeh yesterday, a good proportion being fats. Yalues ranged as follow:—Fat lambs 18/- to 20/9, others 16/3 to 17/8.
