A NEW AGREEMENT.

DUNEDIN SLAUGHTERMEN. Press Association. DUNEDIN, March 31. An agreement has been filed between the Ota go Slaughtermen's 1 Industrial Union of Workers and W. Kerr and Co. r Dunedin abattoirs. It sets out that the Week's work shall not exceed forty-eight hours. The minimum wages shall be: —Slaughtermen £3 10/- per week, assistant slaughtermen and man employed in pithing cattle £2 10/-. When an assistant slaughterman shall have worked' two years beyond boys' and youths' limit, then he shall be paid not less than £3 10/-. Casual slaughtermen shall be paid not less than 12/- per day of eight hours, and if employed by the week casual hands shall be paid not less than £3 10/- per week of fortyeight hours. Boys and youths may be employed at the discretion of the employer, provided the following rates of wages be paid:—Between fourteen and fifteen years, 12/- per week; between fifteen and sixteen years, 15/-; between seventeen and eighteen years, £1; between eighteen and nineteen years £1 5/-; between nineteen and twenty years, £1 10/-; and between twenty and twenty-one years, £1 15/-. The proportion of boys and youths to slaughtermen is to be one to three or fraction of three. Overtime shall be paid for at the rate of time and a quarter for the first two hours and time and a half afterwards. Holidays are provided- for, and during the hot weather, when it is necessary to kill on Sundays, time and a half shall be paid. Clauses covering preference, "no discrimination" and under-rate workers are also inserted. The agreement is to come into force on April 1 and contiuue in force till March 31, 1917.
