A group of French "banks are ad\ancing Brazil £1,500,000 immediately towards the proposed loan of twenty millions.

[There is a financial crisis in Brazil. The European purse-strings have been pulled tighter, and money is being hoarded to an astonishing extent. The banks hold only about 20 per cent, of the currency. The money in circulation is calculated at £26,000,000, and is literally locked up in boxes. Firms importing safes and strong-boxes are unable to meet the demand.]
