CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. Although the opening of the Christchurch Golf Club's season was postponed from -last Saturday to next, the qualifying round of the Denniston Cup was got oft. , The following were 3 down:—R, C. Todhunter (11), C. Louisson (12), L. W. Harley (8), G. B. Beadle (11), G. H. Swann (10), S. K. Sleigh (5), A. M'Carthy (5), C A. Seymour (8), and H. H. Loughnan (10). The play in the bogey handicap resulted in a tie in the senior- division between C« H. Hewlett and W. A. Humphreys. J. D. Millton won in the juniors.
NEW BRIGHTON CLUB. . A large attendance of members and visitors assembled at the formal opening of the New Brighton Golf Club on Saturday. The president, ■Mr R; C. Bishop, officially declared the season open. The course was in excellent order, and the greens show a great improvement on last season. (Much of the unnecessary gorse and scrub has been removed, and the fair way now is much clearer. In the afternoon Mr B. B. Wood, the New Zealand played a nine holes exhibition match with J. A.. Clements. The former played a remarkably steady game, and handed in a card with a total of 32 for the nine holes. Clements failed on the green and missed a number of putts when they iwere most wanted.
Mr Bishop, in his speech, praised the work of the . greenkeeper, Mr Hewitt, who had brought the course up to a splendid state of perfection. As yet there was only a ninehole course, but negotiations were in progress which would enable a full course to be laid out second to none in New Zealand.
RANGIORA CLUB. - Tlio Rangiora Golf Club's season was also opened on Saturday afternoon. The following was the result of the competitions:— Approaching and putting, H. J. Gulliver; best card returned for the Mixed Foursome, S. L. Patterson and Miss A. Macfarlane; ladies' putting and approaching, Mr.s C. W. Bell and Miss Keir equal. The prizes were given by Messrs Hood and Clements, H. J. Gulliver, J. K. Macfarlane, W. Smith, and
SUMNER CLUB. Ten members of the Sumner Golf Club competed in a bogey match on Saturday afternoon. R. G. Ecclesfield came in 2 down, and H. J. Quarrell was also in" the same position.
