SCHOLASTIC APPOINTMENT.
PROFESSOR PICKEN HONOURED.
Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 25. At a recent meeting of the Council of the Ormond Presbyterian College, one of the three residential colleges ofthe Melbourne University, representing respectively the Anglican, Presbyterian, and Wesleyan denominations, Professor D. K. Picken, M.A., of Victoria College, Wellington, was elected Master of the College. The election is subject to the approval of the General Assembly in May. Professor-Picken graduated M.A. at Glasgow, /with first-class honours, winning the Metcalfe Fellowship. He then proceeded to Cambridge, where he graduated sixth wrangler in 1902. After acting as Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Glasgow for five years, he was elected to his present position of Professor of Pure and Applied Mathematics in New Zealand. Professor : Picldtt is the author of several mathematical publications. He will take up his new duties at the beginning of 1915.
