Mr J. A. Findlay was a passenger north last evening.
Mr Gifford Moore arrived from Wellington yesterday. Mr J. A. Richardson, of Wellington, is in Christchurch.
Mr T. E. Y. Seddon, M.P., left last night for Wellington. The Hon. C. A. C. Hardy, M.L.C., is at present in Christchurch.
Mr Arthur Pearce, of Wellington, re turned to the north last night.
Mr C. Beid leaves Christchurch on Thursday, en route for London. Mr Albert Kaye, who has been on a visit to Wellington, has returned to Christchurch.
Mr A. M. Wright, chief chemist at the Islington freezing works, left for Timaru yesterday. Messrs D. A. Aiken, E. O. Duncan, G. H. Scales, W. Wood, and A. P. Eattray. left for Wellington last night. At last night's meeting of the Sumner Borough Council, the Town Clerk was appointed returning officer" for the borough.
Captain Eainey, Marine Superintendent of the Tyser Company, arrived from Wellington by the Maori this morning. r Messrs C. Nicholls and F. C. Hubbard left Wellington for Brisbane on Friday last. They go to represent the New Zealand Y.M.C.A. at the Australasian Y.M.C.A. tourney.
Sergeants .John Moore and Edward Clough, of the Royal Engineers, are now on their way out in the Athenic. They will be attached to the New Zealand Forces in an instructional capacity. The Rev. I. Featherston, Methodist minister at Timaru, has been transferred to Inglewood, Taranaki. On the occasion of his departure he was presented with a purse of sovereigns, and Mrs Featherston received a gold brooch. Mr H. G. Ell leaves for Wellington on Thursday or Friday, in order to attend a meeting of the executive of the society which was recently formed for the protection of bird and plant life in New Zealand.
Captain Clanville, of the Westport Salvation Army, has .been appointed to take charge of the St. Albans corps, Christchurch. Before coming here he attends the annual congress at Wellington. Captain and Mrs Sawyer ltave been appointed to the Westport command. Mr T. M. Charters, of Kinsey and Co., was the recipient yesterday of a purse of sovereigns on the occasion of his marriage, which took place to-day, the gift being from various grain, seed, and produce shippers of this city, in appreciation of the courteous treatment they have always received at his hands in the matter of arrangement of shipping space.
The Prime Minister, (Hon. W. F. Massey), accompanied by Mrs and Miss Massey, arrived in Christchurch last evening from the West Coast, where he has made an extended tour, To-day he received a number of deputations and transacted a great deal of public business. To-morrow morning he will leave for Dunedin, where he will spend a few days. On Monday he will visit Moa Flat, and deliver an address at Tapanui. On Tuesday evening he will come north, and will deliver an address at Fairlie. On Wednesday he will pass through Christchurch on his return to Wellington.
