ART IN WELLINGTON
Wellington in the past afforded an instance of apathy on the part of " the general public concerning art. Year in,, year .out) the same;-comparatively few' patronised the New Zealand Fine Arts Academy in Whitmore Street. The call of the "masters," old and ne.w, did not appeal to the great mass. Last year, however; things took a turn for the better, says the "Post." The society made an innovation in throwing the gallery open to the public on six days in the week, access to the exhibition being available from 1 p.m. to 4.,'i0 p.m. on every day except Monday. In all, 7200 persons paid for admission. This year the academy is open the same number of days, and so far the results have been most encouraging. If the attendance since the new year keeps up in the same ratio, the figures for 1914 will' constitute a record.
